Abstract: The aim of this research was to determine the economic value of the Chapawanki cascade located in Lamas town, in order to optimize the use of the tourist resort of the waterfall and estimate the willingness to pay (WTP) that visitors-tourists give to the changes in the welfare that produces them in the modifying of the environmental benefit which allows to determine the economic potential and optimizes the tourist use of the natural resource of the study. The contingent valuation method was used in this investigation, the economic value of the environmental benefits and services non-market goods represented by the Chapawanki waterfall area. Consequently, 179 surveys were made to visitors- tourist and with the application of the contingent valuation method the monetary value that users give to the recreational and tourist use of the Chapawanki cascade was estimated, with the willingness to pay to a change of quality S/ 12.73 per visitor-tourists a year, this value reflects the economic benefit associated with the tour recreation, and in order to develop a quality tourism is necessary to preserved and kept in good condition this natural resource. In this sense, this study permited to identify that estimates of welfare measures show a positive probability of willingness to pay by the visitors-tourists, these results should justify the implementation by the government authorities of financing projects shared with the community and businesses
El objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar la valoración económica de la cascada de Chapawanki ubicado en la ciudad de Lamas, para optimizar el uso del recurso turístico de la cascada y estimar la disposición a pagar (DAP) que otorgan los visitantes-turistas a los cambios en el bienestar que les produce en la modificación del bien ambiental lo cual permite determinar el potencial económico y optimiza el uso turístico del recurso natural en estudio. En la presente investigación se utilizó el método de valoración contingente, el valor económico de los beneficios y servicios ambientales de bienes de no mercado, representados por el área de la cascada de Chapawanki. En consecuencia, se realizaron 179 encuestas a visitantes-turistas y con la aplicación del método de valoración contingente se estimó el valor monetario que los usuarios dan al uso recreativo y turístico de la cascada de Chapawanki, siendo la disposición a pagar determinada ante un cambio de calidad de S/ 12.73 por visitante-turista al año, este valor refleja el beneficio económico asociado al servicio de recreación turística, y para desarrollar un turismo de calidad es necesario preservar y conservar en buen estado este recurso natural. En tal sentido, el presente estudio permitió determinar que las estimaciones de las medidas de bienestar muestran una probabilidad positiva de la disposición a pagar por parte de los visitantes-turistas, estos resultados deberían justificar la implementación por parte de las autoridades de gobierno de proyectos de financiamiento compartidos con la comunidad y empresas
