Abstract: The work was carried out in the medium and high microcatchment of the Shilcayo River, district of the Band of Shilcayo, province and department of San Martín. A total of 9 sampling points were carried out: PM 01: Shilcayo River, PM 02: Quebrada Vinoyacu (affluent), PM 03: Shilcayo River, PM 04: Tamushal Gulch (tributary), PM 05: Shillcayo River, PM 06: Queura Yuracyacu (Tributary), PM 07: Shilcayo River, PM 08: Quebrada Yuracyaquillo (tributary), PM 09: Shilcayo River (bocatoma). The water quality was performed through three samples at intervals of one month and these samples were taken to the Regional Reference Laboratory of Public Health. Division: Food and Water Microbiology of the Regional Health Directorate of San Martín, for their respective bacteriological analysis. In the field the physical-chemical parameters were analyzed: Temperature (V), pH and dissolved oxygen and in laboratory the bacteriological parameters: total and thermotolerant coliforms. Sampling points (PM): PM 01, PM 02, PM 03, PM 04, PM 05, PM 07, PM 09 analyzed are within the permissible physicochemical and bacteriological limits (Group VI), with reference to DL 17752, General Water Law. Classification according to use. As a result, these samples, coming from the medium and high microcatchment of the Shilcayo River, are considered Aquatic Fauna Preservation and Commercial Recreational Fishing Waters. Samples taken from sampling points PM 06 and PM 08 exceed the permissible bacteriological limits for this group of waters (Group VI). The medium and high microcatchment of the Shilcayo River is considered a protection zone to be found in the Regional Conservation Area-Cordillera Escalera (ACR-CE). Therefore, it is proposed to apply measures to conserve the environmental quality of this water resource, as well as: Establish permanent monitoring measures in the area in order to avoid the settlement of human populations that deteriorate the environmental quality of water.
