The aim of this research was to develop a correlational and explanatory model of the economic growth of the San Martín region based on the influence of the regional financial system. The financial conditions were identified as a factor of the economic growth for the region, identifying the representative variables of these financial conditions that correspond to the degree of financial deepening registered in the period of study 2000-2016. The ratios of placements and deposits in the regional financial system are the indicators resulting from the level of financial deepening in the period of study. After the analysis of these factors applying a multiple regression model, it is concluded that: The financial system via the ratio of placements and deposits is correlated and explains 95.53% of the variation in the economic growth of the San Martín region (expressed through the Gross Domestic Product per capita). The financial system via placements as a % of the regional GDP has a positive and significant influence on the economic growth of the region measured through the product per capita, taking into account the regression equation, for each percentage point increase in the ratio of placements, the Gross Domestic Product per capita increases by 127.6 soles. The financial system via deposits as a % of the regional GDP has a positive and significant influence on the economic growth of the region, measured through the product per capita, taking into account the regression equation, for every percentage point increase in the deposit ratio, the Gross Domestic Product per capita will increase by 434.6 soles. Thus, it is concluded that the indicators of financial deepening are good predictors of the economic growth of the San Martin region. Likewise, a financial model to guarantee and sustain the regional economic growth is proposed as a scientific contribution of the research.
