The objective of this research was to evaluate the efficiency of Phragmites australis (common reed) and Lemna minor (duckweed) in the reduction of total water hardness in the district of Chocope - Ascope, 2021. The aquatic plants used in the treatment showed good performance in reducing the concentration of total hardness in the simple, through artificial wetlands at laboratory scale with analysis at 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 days. According to the design, 3 wetlands were constructed with equal dimensions: width 38 cm, length 70 cm and height 45 cm; with a capacity to treat 100 liters of water, H1 with 18 plants of Common Reed, H2 with 50 gr of Duckweed and H3 only with water as a control. The values obtained in the initial analysis were 541.9 mg/L. After treatment, efficiencies of 12.59%; 12.70%; 12.97%; 13.75% and 20.19% were obtained for Phragmites australis (Common reed); as well as 12.75%; 14.45%; 18.62%; 19.89% and 27.63% for Lemna minor (duckweed), which are values below the maximum permissible limits (MPL) whose value is 500 mg/L according to DS N° 031- 2010-SA. When comparing the treatments, it was found that Lemna minor (duckweed) has a higher efficiency to remove the total hardness parameter. Finally, in the hypothesis testing, it was found that tc = 10.29 and 7.32 > tt = 2.776, also the sig p = 0.001 and 0.002 < 0.05; allowing to reject H0 and accept H1.
